2024 Paralympic games schedule
France decided to reinvent the opening ceremonies for the Olympic and Paralympic games in 2024.
After it arrived in France on the 8th of May 2024, the Olympic torch will go all throughout France before coming to Paris and passing through emblematic places in the French capital such as the Place de la République, l’Hôtel de Ville, etc.
On the 26th of July 2024, the Olympic games opening ceremony will take place on the Seine River.
But the opening ceremony for the 2024 Paralympic games will take place on the Place de la Concorde as well as in the Champs-Élysées. This celebration on the 28th of August 2024 will indeed be unprecedented. A parade of more than 4400 athletes which will be supervised by Thomas Jolly should offer a mind-blowing spectacle. Furthermore, the scenery is breathtaking.
The closing ceremony will take place on the 8th of September 2024 in the mythical Stade de France in Saint-Denis.

The paralympic team sports schedule
We will start by giving you the dates for the paralympic team sports.
Para basketball dates
Would you like to see elite athletes coming from all around the world to play wheelchair basketball? The tournament will begin on the 29th of august 2024 and will end on the 8th of September, on the same day as the Paralympic games themselves. For 11 days, players will set fire to the Bercy Arena.
Goalball: thrilling sport days
Goalball is naturally in the spotlight during the paralympic games. This competition will take place in the Paris Arena from the 29th of August to the 5th of September. The different events will take place over the course of 7 days and are an amazing showcase of agility and strategy, it is impossible to miss!
Blind football dates
Blind football will take place over 5 days if you want to discover this practice. The events will take place in the Stade Tour Eiffel on:
- Sunday the 1st of September;
- Monday the 2nd of September;
- Tuesday the 3rd of September;
- Thursday the 5th of September;
- Saturday the 7th of September.
Wheelchair rugby in 2024 paralympic games
Wheelchair rugby was first introduced as a demo event in the Atlanta Olympic games. It officially entered the selection of sports in Sydney in 2000.
It is a mixed tournament composed of 8 teams. Games will take place over the course of 5 days in the Champ-de-Mars Arena. Here are the dates for the wheelchair rugby events:
- 29th of August 2024;
- 30th of August 2024;
- 31st of August 2024;
- 1st and 2nd of September 2024.
Sitting volleyball
The sitting volleyball competition will take place in Villepinte between the 29th of August and the 7th of September. 8 women and men teams will compete in the Paris Nord Arena.

2024 Paralympic games: dates for the racket sport competitions
Dates for para table tennis
For information, para table tennis is an Olympic discipline that debuted in the 1988 Olympic games. It is divided into 11 disability categories. In categories 1 through 5, players are in a wheelchair and in categories 6 through 11, they remain standing.
The games will take place between the 29th of August and the 7th of September 2024. They should take place in one of the major hubs of the Olympic games: the Olympic and Paralympic games Arena.
Dates for para tennis
It is the Roland Garros stadium that will be the stage of para tennis games. The competition will take place on the clay between the 30th of August and the 7th of September.
Para badminton
Here is a discipline that counts players in 60 countries in the world. Para badminton tournaments will take place from the 29th of August to the 2nd of August 2024. There, more than 120 athletes will gather to try and win titles among the 16 that will be available from the singles format to the mixed doubles format. The competitions will take place in the Porte de la Chapelle Arena.
Individual paralympic sports
Para athletics
This category regroups mixed relay, 100m, 200m marathon, high jump, long jump, etc.
All para-athletics events will take place form the 30th of August to the 7th of September 2024 in the Stade de France.
The para marathon will take place on the 8th of September.
Paracycling
Paracycling in the Paralympics regroups 2 different types of events:
- Road paracycling (from the 4th to the 7th of September 2024);
- Track paracycling (from the 29th of August to the 1st of September).
Track races will take place in the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines velodrome which was built in 2014.
For road paracycling competitons, they will take place in the Seine-Saint-Denis département, in Clichy-Sous-Bois.
Para powerlifting
Weightlifting will also have its time to shine. Events for this discipline will take place from the 4th to the 8th of September 2024 in the Arena.
Para judo and para taekwondo
The events will take place in the Champ-de-Mars Arena over the course of 3 days (from the 3rd of September to the 7th of September) depending on the categories.
Para swimming
Para swimming is a sport which has been part of the paralympic lineup since 1960.
Numerous events are planned related to the different types of practices: breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly stroke, freestyle, or combined styles.
An Olympic swimming pool will be installed for the occasion in the Paris La Défense Arena between the 29th of August and the 7th of September.
Para archery
Para archery offers a truly astonishing spectacle. The events will take place at the majestic Place des Invalides between the 29th of August and the 5th of September.
Para target shooting
Para target shooting is a practice that requires extreme precision and focus. Doing a series of shots that hit the target is a double challenge for the athletes. This show guarantees great suspense and tension so do not miss it! These events should take place from the 30th of August to the 5th of September at the Châteauroux shooting centre.
Para triathlon
Just like its traditional counterpart, para triathlon is divided in 3 trials: 750m for swimming, 20km for biking and 5km for running.
The athletes will start from the Alexandre III bridge on the 1st and on the 2nd of September 2024 and will do so by groups, depending on their category.
Equestrian sport: places and schedule of the competitions
Para training has been a paralympic discipline since the 1984 New York games. In 2024, the individual training will take place between the 3rd and the 7th of September. For this 14th edition, the grand prix will be organised in a sumptuous and grandiose location: the Palace of Versailles.
The unmissable dates of wheelchair fencing
The 2024 Paris game also include fencing duels in singles or in teams. These can be performed with a foil, an epee or with a sabre. These events will take place from the 3rd to the 7th of september 2024 in the Grand Palais in Paris.
Para canoe and rowing events
For para rowing, the events will take place over the course of 3 days from the 30th of August to the 1st of September 2024. Like the para canoe-kayak events, they will take place in the Olympic nautical stadium located in the Seine-et-Marne département which was inaugurated in 2019.
Canoe races will take place from the 6th to the 8th of September.
Boccia in the 2024 Paris paralympic games
Boccia is only a Paralympic sport; it does not have an Olympic equivalent. This practice which shares similarities with boule lyonnaise (or bocce volo for flying boules) demands dexterity and precision.
The rounds are played in singles or in mixed teams and will take place in the Paris Sud Arena from the 29th of August to the 9th of September.
